It’s safe, has plenty of ventilation, and is super comfortable for both humans and cats alike. Use it for everything from trips to the vet to hikes at national parks. All of our styles have a clip and bungee for you to attach a leash so your cat can “hang out” of the backpack!
- Clip inside to attach a leash
- Bubble attachment
- Screen attachment
- Side pockets on both sides
- Adjustable shoulder straps
- Adjustable chest strap
- Strong mesh sides and top (no cat has broken through yet!)
- Air holes in the front (seriously, we wouldn’t sell something your fur babies couldn’t breathe in)
- Top opening for your pet to hangout
- Mat, removable
Our Fat Cat Backpack is airline approved. It depends on the airline, so please check with the specific size requirements before you purchase if that’s the main reason you’re getting it.
So comfortable, your cat will probably use it as a bed when you’re not traveling in it. Put a favorite blanket with its scent, toys, and leave it in an area where they hang out a lot.
YES, you can use The Fat Cat Backpack for other small pets like dogs and rabbits. Just don’t tell them the product name, we don’t want any identity crises!

Function: 5/5
I chose this bag because of its functionality. It has deep mesh pockets on the side for storage, which was a selling point for me because it can hold my water bottle and my cat's accessories when we go out. The inside of the bag has a small leash that keeps your cat from jumping out of the bag if they get the opportunity. I don't use it often because she gets her arms twisted in it, but I still enjoy the option.
Comfortability: 4/5
The bottom insert of the bag is mostly hard with a thin layer of soft material. For short trips this suffices, but I do slip in a blanket for her when we take long trips so she has something comfortable to lay on.
Make sure that if you have your cat in a collar/harness and you have the top screen open, you are certain they won’t jump out when clipped to the pack. I had my backpack facing forward when doing this and my cat tried to climb out, lol! The hook is a helpful safety measure but doesn’t guarantee your kitty won’t try and escape. And often times, they can use a tether like the leash & hook to escape from their collar/harness since you can’t control their motion!!!!!
