   We bought this for our active cat. My goal was to monitor where he goes and how often he crosses a busy street, so we can decide whether to let him out in the future. I like this tracker enough that we might consider using permanently going forward, which was not the original plan.

   I wanted this to work so we could perimeter train our dog. I had hoped it would make the task easier. Once he got a short way down the lane the unit couldn’t connect and track because of the heavily wooded surrounding. I’ll just have to train the old fashioned way-without electronics, with tons of tasty treats.

   My dog is a classic compulsive wanderer. She doesn’t go that far, but she doesn’t always come when I call her, despite training. The first version of the GPS had terrible accuracy problems, and for tracking a pet you need pretty good accuracy. A firmware updates seems to have fixed that. It’s about 10 foot radius, maybe even 5 foot!

   I'll start by saying that I did a ton of research before purchasing this product and I wish there was a review like mine out there so that I could pre-set my expectations. I would definitely buy this tracker again, but I would know going in that it has some limitations. I bought the tracker here on Amazon, and of course needed to purchase the subscription separately through Tractive, which I fully expected. Overall, the cost including subscription is much better than other comparable options.

   The tracker gives us a reassurance that if our girl goes missing we can locate her quickly! The only thing I did not like is that it is impossible to contact customer service by telephone. Once I was aware of this I will say, their return emails were quick and my issue was resolved.

   Tried the Halo collar for my dog with a strong nose and hunting instinct. Blew right through the fence like it wasn’t there. Even on maxed out “static” correction. The tractiv doesn’t do fence correction at all but it does track live where the halo was slow to update location. So if he does get loose. I can track him much better. The only downside I’ve found is that you set up your WiFi and optional “safe zone” similar to a fence but the dog won’t know where that zone is. Ok no biggie I knew that. But if he does get outside the safe zone he’s already several houses away and then the app takes a bit too long to let me gps locate. It stays in power save mode in the safe zone and only lets you track with Bluetooth when in that mode. Overall for the price I’m much happier than the basically worthless (for me anyway) $600 plus sub Halo collar. 5 stars if they fix the safe zone issue.

   I really like this collar, but every 3-4 morning it’s randomly turned off. We live on acreage and had a problem with our Akitas blowing through our wireless fence to try and catch rabbits. For the moment we put it on, we worked with the sound feature anytime they stepped out. Now all I have to do is play the sound and they come running.

   Luckily I have not had a reason to use it. My girl is a escape artist. If there is one little place that you think she cannot get out of, she does. I thought she escaped while I was working on my yard. I pulled out the phone and found she was in the house. I did not have to stop what I was doing to go find out where she was. That moment was such a relief that the system is worth every cent.
