It removes all of the loose rust and paint making it suitable for repainting. I previously used a scaler. The sandy blaster does a better job of cleaning the rust and paint than the scaler and is much easier to use. I highly recommend the sand Blaster for removing the paint and rust scale.

That is not a knock on the product / just a heads up to buy some of the other stuff suggested by Amazon and maybe a fitting kit for air hoses / accessories. I got one from a local home improvement store and I had everything I needed. Great for smallish sandblasting jobs.
