If it's the right direction to create tension on the leaves/petals, it will move in the slightest breeze. Very sturdy base. I loved the fact that it came with two sections of pole so I could make it shorter. Let me add that the screws are already rusting so I suggest you spray them all with sealant before placing outside. I wish I had.
