I have a 90lb puller who goes ape for squirrels, so I have to get a hold and control of her quickly or else my face will be dragging on the ground. The shorter handle lets me hold her closer to me and keeps us both safe. I use the "traffic" handle when we first start to get them calm and recognizing that they have to listen, then let them go with the longer length to explore but stay aware of me. When other animals are nearby the shorter length handle gives me much better control over their pulling not to mention keeping them closer to me rather than going closer to the other dog/squirrel, etc. I've only had them a few days and already the walking with them is a better experience! I'm suggesting them to my kids who also have large dogs . . .
