   I honestly have not had a chance to use this hole-digger yet, but I took it out of the box and was very pleased with its quality and ease to put together. I have no doubt it will work perfectly for my purposes which was to be able to make nice sized holes to plant flower bulbs. I can see it would be great for most of the reason you need to dig a hole and don't want to be on your knees digging for hours. The digger I got is not a tall pole so if your tall you may want a longer extension on your digger. Looking forward to digging some holes!

   So...The soil in this area is more rock than dirt. The idea of running a motorized auger down into it and possibly destroying my hands/arms or worse just didn't excite me. This manual auger chewed it's way about a foot and a half down in about 10 minutes of light manual labor. This was so easy that I won't be using a motorized auger for short, small holes ever again.

   I rarely leave reviews so when I do pay attention.
   I live in mid-state South Carolina where the soil is neither sand or clay, it is mostly like asphalt and you never use a shovel to dig a hole, A pickaxe is the only tool that gets the job done. I used these augers on the end of my corded drill (my cordless just didn't have enough power) and they powered through dirt, rock, and roots in seconds to make a hole for my plantings. If I needed a larger hole, I just used it to ream out the sides of the hole until it met my needs. These augers are solidly built and can handle just about any digging chore.
   The only thing I would caution you about is to go slow when drilling and "feel" for obstructions. The auger can get temporarily caught on a root or rock formation and jerk the drill out of your hands. I learned that by slowing down and moving more deliberately I was able to overcome this issue. This is a purchase you will not regret

   I used the largest auger with my cordless drill to plant bare root trees and shrubs. I was concerned that the cordless drill might not have enough power to drill in drier, hard soil, but it worked very well. The battery lasted to drill 80 holes and still had charge left. The auger made a hole that was adequate size to plant the trees and shrubs and saved a lot of digging with a shovel. The smaller augers would probably work for smaller plants and bulbs, but I haven't tried doing that.

   The set is very will built and pushes dirt very well. It's a bit tough in packed, dry soil but if you have normal ground moisture it should do just fine. One warning: You need a powerful battery drill of no less than 24volts or you will run out that battery very fast. I had to switch to a corded (hammer) drill because my 18volt couldn't handle it. The corded drill was a bit overkill but it got the job done.

   We used the larger one to plant over 100 white pine saplings. It worked perfectly! We plan to use all of them for the garden this year... Just need to keep the drill battery charged.
   Also, make sure to use your leg or something to help support your wrists when drilling. It really digs down deep quickly and can torque your arm pretty hard.
