I placed the device in the drain without sealing it in. Haven't detected a odor since installing it. I probably will not seal it , doesn't seem necessary.

The shortest version fits well. I believe even the middle size also fits in my bathroom. Now it's been about one week and everything has been working fine.

I was skeptical before buying this -- I have to say this really works well!!! Really well! Used this for a floor drain which is in a utility room and it has made a huge difference in how fresh the room smells. Before it was musty and the drain trap is set in 8" of concrete so not really fixable otherwise. First tested by pouring water through before installing and found that the flow is not reduced much at all (so the floor drain will still drain water fine if it's needed to prevent flooding of the house.) Installed very easily. And after a few days, I can say it really has worked very well to make the utility room smell much much better!
