   I needed to tackle an antique metal lard can that we use to store bird seed. I know I'm destroying the antique value of the can by painting the whole thing instead of just the bottom, but being able to use the can is more important to us. The lid only had a few rust spots, so I cleaned it up and painted that. The bottom of the can is as pictured and is in terrible condition. I felt like I couldn't sand the rough rust you see without making holes, so I thought I'd try this first, both inside and out, before welding in a new bottom. So far so good. No water seems to be seeping into the can. I don't know how long it will last and I don't know if I should add another coat, but so far I'm happy. I wish I had used clear instead of red, but that's my fault.

   For the size of the can, it seems like this product is more for touch-ups than covering large areas. I tried it on a few small patches of rust that were starting to appear on my windshield wipers, although I cheated and used cellophane to remove the top layer of rust and smooth the transition to paint. This rust remover dries very quickly, initially settling within 30 minutes or so, and it settled well on these small areas. The resulting layer seems to adhere very well, like regular paint on a new surface. This product is supposed to prevent corrosion, so it may take a few years before I can tell how well it performs over time. For now, everything is fine.
