I just finished a project of making 21 Shaker style kitchen cabinet doors with concealed hinges, and I used this Kreg jig for all of them. Using this jig allowed me to get a precise cut and line all the hinges up perfectly. Including some test pieces, I cut 46 pockets in 3/4" MDF. The blades on the cutter were still sharp after the last one, so it seems pretty durable. The jig is very easy to use, just make sure you follow the directions. This jig will cut a 5/8" deep hole. A little tip I picked up after a few pockets were made: hold a hose to a shop vacuum next to one of the holes in the top section of the jig. The cutter will make a huge mess and you won't be able to see what you're doing.

I just used my new jig to cut the first two insets for my hinges. It’s freakin’ awesome. This guide is so simple. Pick your measurement (there’s a rule on the jig), attach the bit to your drill, clamp the jig and pull the trigger. There’s a set screw depth guide that you put on the drill bit. It automatically sets the proper drill depth. I used a piece of scrap to be sure the depth didn’t cut all the way through the door. It drilled a perfect depth, perfectly sized hole to accept the new hung assembly. This will be the easiest part of the project now.

The only wish is that the maker of this 'device' would put centering lines on top of the plate and not just on the sides. You can actually cut your holes without fastening it down with clamps; just keep even down pressure on the plate with your non-drill-holding hand. It's all in the wrist.

I had old kitchen cabinets with visible hinges, so I used this jig to change to euro style hinges. The dial to change the reveal on the mortise to cabinet edge is really hard to turn (damaged one side when the screwdriver deformed the soft plastic). The jig itself worked great. I used a couple clamps and had 2 drills so I could drill out the mortise and then predrill the screw holes. I’m not sure how long the bit will last (I did 10 oak doors) but when the bit gets dull you’ll need a new kit since the bit is designed specifically for the jig.

This is a bit more expensive than other options but it's definitely worth every penny. This is the first time I tried to install a compact hinge. This made so easy. The default setting with 5 mm probably should be set to 3 mm instead. For the first time DYI user it's probably best to look up a few videos on how to measure the overlay, how to adjust the hinge, how to measure the spacing between the left and right side of cabinet doors. These are more important. In case you have already drilled the holes and can't change that, you may downsize or upsize hinges to fix the problem. I bought 1/2 compact hinge and had to get a few 1/4 hinges to close the gap. Fortunate the hole for the hinges should be the same.

I bought a cheaper no name brand kit before this one. I ended up with bore holes in the cabinet door that were crooked. I didn't realize that was the problem until lots of time spent adjusting the hinges only to find out it was the hinge bore hole that was the problem. Barely noticeable to the eye. This product keeps the drill holes perfectly perpendicular and limits the depth. It's a good quality and just finished a kitchen worth of doors with it. I'm very happy with the results. I would recommend this over the other brands that dont control for the drill bit angle unless you're using a drill press. I should have bought this one first.

Cool tool. I made some custom doors to go on an Ikea Besta unit. The unit holds my IT equipment and I needed the back and front to be open for air flow. So I built some white oak doors that will have honeycomb mesh.

My hubby and I watched a few videos of people using this jig and were hopeful but skeptical about how easy it was. But since we love Kreg, we thought we'd give it a try for our next build - - a closet cabinet with a huge door. We had previously done inset doors and hanging them perfectly with wrap around hinges was horrible, we needed to use Euro/concealed hinges from now on so we could adjust the door based on uneven flooring or the like. But who wants to attempt drilling that cup hole in a beautifully finished door? What if I accidentally pop through the other side? Or don't drill deeply enough? Or seat the hinge crooked?
