My bike was stolen this weekend. The padlock was in good working order and was kept tight. The thief had to devalue my bike to get my bike. I was lucky that the police caught my bike thief and I got it back. The lock was tight and even though the guy broke the lock so I couldn't get it off my bike, it took a while for the police and after a while and the new proper tools and levers can break the lock. The lock on the bike flagged the cop when the guy was stopped for something else. You can see in the photos that this lock has taken a lot of time. I was planning to buy a stiffer lock, but I'm very happy with this because without it I wouldn't have my bike.

If you use this lock properly with the u-bolt around the rack, through the frame and the rear wheel, and the cable through the front wheel, this will definitely make a would-be thief pause and look for an easier grab. The u-bolt is quite solid and the lock mechanism engages both ends of the bolt. The cable is big enough that it would take some larger cable cutters to get through it.

Instead, they broke into my house, found my toolkit, and used my tools to disassemble the bike rack and grab the bike (with the lock still on). Not a good experience for me overall, but I think it's a pretty good testament to the quality of this U-lock. I'm going to buy another one as soon as I get a new bike. (Might be time for a different rack though.)
